Swedish modernist painter Sigrid Hjertén, 1913, Sweden.

She was married for many years to fellow artist Isaac Grünewald. In the late 1930s, Sigrid suffered from escalating mental illness; she was eventually diagnosed with schizophrenia and permanently hospitalised. She died in 1948 of complications from a botched lobotomy. (Source: wikipedia)
